History Fair, Here it Comes!
Here comes History Fair! The theme this year is “Triumph and Tragedy”. Parents, please look for a letter being sent home early next week. Please send back the signed acknowledgement page. History Fair Form with Topic Selection is due Thursday Sept. 7 (blue day classes) and Friday Sept. 8 (green day classes).
Think carefully about what topic you choose, and if you are working in a group or individually. Remember, if you are interested in a topic that is not on the Sample Topics list, you need to have it approved by Ms. Hines first!!
World Cultures–Week of 8/28
This week we will begin our unit on Ancient Civilizations (Egypt and Mesopotamia).
Vocabulary should be defined in your spiral for class on Wednesday Aug. 30 and Thursday Aug. 31.
Map assignment will be distributed Friday, and should be completed for Tuesday Sept. 5 and Wednesday Sept. 6.
Making Metric Measurements (say that 3x fast!)
Please prepare for the week’s lessons and labs by reading pages 582 and 583 in the textbook: “Making Measurements.” Complete by Wednesday/Thursday.
Measuring Volume: Reading a Graduated Cylinder
Please complete the graduated cylinder worksheet for homework. One class did not receive the worksheet and will have this assignment for homework next week. You can practice reading the volume on a graduated cylinder by visiting here.
Safety Quiz
Those classes that did not successfully take the safety and equipment quizzes because of my absence should expect to have the quiz Friday, August 25, 2006.
Safety Quiz Rescheduled with Equipment Quiz
Due to a mistake on my part, the science safety quiz is rescheduled for Wednesday and Thursday of this week (August 23 and 24, 2006). This means that we will have two quizzes scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday: the safety quiz and a quiz over lab equipment. I apologize for the mix-up, but now you have extra time to prepare.
World Cultures: Week of August 21
This week we will be examining the concept of culture. What is it? Do I have one? What are some cultural aspects? We will also be refreshing ourselves with different types of graphs–line, bar, circle, etc. Please be prepared for a Map Quiz towards the end of the week.
Registration Packets/Code of Conduct
Students, please have your parents complete the registration packet and sign the Code of Conduct. Turn these items in to your advocacy teacher as soon as possible.
Supplies
This is just a reminder to turn in the following supplies to your first period teacher:
- construction paper
- kleenex
- paper towels
Many students have turned in the supplies already, but we need everyone to get them in.
