1.  Students should be working on the rough drafts of their Process Papers.  Rough drafts are due Oct. 9 and Oct. 10 in class.  They may use the handout given in class as a guide.

2.  Students should complete their research by Oct. 6 and begin working on their projects (exhibit boards, documentaries, performances or research papers).  We will be discussing this more in class the week of October 9.

World Cultures Portfolios

September 14, 2006 ahines Leave a comment

In World Cultures, instead of passing out work to the students at random times, it all gets filed in portfolio folders, one for each student.  Then, once every week or two, students look at their portfolio, take out certain assignments to take home, leave certain ones in the folder.  The ones that are left, they record the grades on a “Grade Update Sheet”.  They then bring that sheet to me, I put their average on it and sign it, and staple it in their planner.  It is my hope that this system will help keep parents updated more often than progress reports and report cards.  Please always check your student’s planner!  We will do Portfolios in class on Monday 9/18 and Tuesday 9/19.

Experimental Design: Helicopter Lab

September 8, 2006 mr. e. Leave a comment

Should you need another helicopter, you can print another by downloading this file. Remember you need to design an experiment that will test your modifications to the helicopter. Your goal is to make the helicopter that stays in the air the longest. Your plan should have the following sections:

  1. Problem
  2. Hypothesis
  3. Materials list
  4. Procedure

The hypothesis should be written in the correct “If…then…because…” format. Your materials list should include anything required to modify your helicopter. You will be choosing the best idea from among your group members and we will be testing them from the C House balcony above main street.
