WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL:

I am very happy to welcome each one of you to our new school year 2007-08. I am very well impressed with your behavior and performance during our first week of school. Keep it up!

I expect from every student to have their materials ready when they enter my classroom.

Next week we will continue studying Chapter 1: Problem solving, factors, prime factors, powers and exponents, order of operations and variables and expressions.

HOMEWORK: For all class periods*:

a) continue working on definitions for vocabulary words from Chapter 1;

b) write two word problems and solve them following the “Steps for Problem Solving”.

c) If you have not turned in a copy of your Math TAKS scores (5th grade), please do so as soon as possible. I will use those scores to group students and provide tutorials as needed.

*7th period: you are ahead of the game already: Work on all the factors (factor pairs) for numbers 2 to 50.

COMPLETE YOUR HOMEWORK……….

AND ENJOY THIS LONG WEEKEND.

Folder Set Up

In my list of supplies I asked you to bring a folder with brads and pockets as well as a package of five dividers.  Here is how I would like the folders to be set up:

The divider with the top tab should go in the folder first.  Please label this tab “Classwork/Notes”.  Then put about ten sheets of notebook paper behind it.  The count does not have to be exact.  Then label the next divider “Vocabulary” and put that in your folder with about twenty sheets of paper.   We just finished one vocabulary assignment, so please make sure it goes in front.  The third tab should be labeled “Spelling”.  Please also put about twenty sheets of paper behind this tab.  Label the fourth tab “Homework”.  Please remember that graded papers will go in this section.  The last tab is labelled “Caught Ya’s”.  You will need to add about ten sheets of paper here.  Also, please make sure your first Caught Ya is placed first in this section.

You now have a labelled folder with two assignments and blank paper for future work.  Please write your name and “English” on the front of your folder.
