IMPORTANT NOTE:

Some students have started practicing the quizzes available on-line.  GREAT!  Keep practicing; don’t forget to print a copy of the quiz you have worked on (I want to see the copy) and send the results via e-mail to me.

PLEASE do not send me more than one e-mail.  I have received tens of emails from the same student in one night.  When you practice the quizzes don’t stay only on one lesson, go on with all the lessons we have already covered in class.  As of today/tomorrow we have covered all Chapter 1.  The test will be next Monday/Tuesday.  Keep practicing.

TUTORIALS:  Students are welcome for Tutorials on Mondays from 3:55 to 4:30 p.m.  Please make sure your child has a safe-way back homeThe School WILL NOT provide transportation after tuturials.

History Fair Projects due Monday, OCTOBER 22!

October 16, 2007 cbrame Leave a comment

The time is almost here to turn in History Fair Projects! They are due this coming Monday, October 22. The student should be turning in either an exhibit (with title page, process paper, and annotated bibiography clipped to the back of the poster) or a research paper (title page on top, the research paper, and then the annotated bibliography). If you have not yet turned in a rough draft of either the process paper or the research paper, please turn them in as soon as possible so you can get some feedback on how you’re doing.

EXTRA CREDIT! If you turn in a project before Monday (by this Friday), you will receive 5 points extra credit on the assignment. PLEASE DO NOT RUSH TO COMPLETE YOUR PROJECT!! It will cost you much more than 5 points if you rush to finish the assignment or have it incomplete. This is just a reward for those who did not procrastinate on the project, not a reward for those who can finish the fastest.

REMINDER! None of the 6th grade World Cultures teachers will accept late projects, no exceptions! Should you become ill or have an emergency and cannot be at school on Monday, your parent/guardian must physically come up to the school to explain the emergency (I will not accept phone calls or emails for accountability reasons). If the parent/guardian is able to come up to the school, they can also bring your project to school as well. If there are any questions on this issue, please email me using the address located on this website. This is a reminder that this policy was located in the Student Contract signed by student and parent/guardian at the beginning of the year.

World Cultures- 10/15-10/18

October 16, 2007 cbrame Leave a comment

This week in World Cultures we are beginning our studies on prehistory, early humans, and ancient civilizations. On Monday and Tuesday, we watched a video titled “Our Ancestors“. We also compared the different types of hominid species and the time periods in which they lived. Here, you can find the Hominid Species Timeline and the Characteristic Chart. On Wednesday and Thursday, we will view a Powerpoint on Lucy and the Origins of Culture to dive into ancient civilizations. Please make sure to keep these notes with you, as they will prove to be very helpful once test time rolls around!

Today the students were given codes that will enable them to access the science textbook online. I hope that you will encourage your children to register for this service; it will be one less book for them to carry home. If you have any problems or questions, please e-mail me.

Current Events

October 10, 2007 cbrame Leave a comment

Starting this week, Ms. Brame’s World Cultures classes will be talking about current events from around the world every Charger Day (most likely every Friday). I will expect for the students to read, watch, or listen to the news every week and be prepared to participate in a discussion about any given current event that a student brings to talk about. Every student must bring a hard copy of their current event- not a summary. If you watch or listen to the news, make sure to take detailed notes about the current news event you are watching/listening to and make note of the source (news channel, time, date, etc.) Not every student needs to share their current event, but must be prepared to participate in some way. This assignment will count as a participation grade (10% of final grade). Please email me if you have any questions about the assignment.
